Identification Requirements

One acceptable proof of identity is required and only valid and original documents will be accepted.

The following are acceptable:

  • passport 
  • a national ID card issued by :  Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden or Switzerland
  • an employee or student identity card 
  • a Garda National Age Card 
  • a Convention travel document with the name and photo of the holder 
  • a bank or Savings Bank book 
  • a cheque book 
  • a cheque card 
  • a credit card 
  • a credit union membership card 
  • a book issued for payment of social welfare allowances, benefits or pensions, a free travel card or a signing on card by the Department of Social Community and Family Affairs 
  • a medical card issued in the State 
  • a birth certificate 
  • a marriage certificate 
  • an Immigration Certificate of Registration issued by the GNIB

If the test is for category C (truck) or category D (bus), you must bring your current category B driving licence with you. It must be a valid Irish driving licence or one from another EU Member state, or from Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway.

If you do not bring the required items with you, or you are late for your appointment, you will not be allowed to sit your test and you will lose your fee.
